FMT Shipyard & Repair

Environmental Stewardship

FMT has been an industry leader in new fleet construction and investing in the best fleet in the industry. The vessels are subject to strict prohibition on the discharge of oil and solid waste into the marine environment. Under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, all tank barges must be equipped with double hulls by the year 2015. The company is proud that all of its barges are double hulled and have been for quite some time. The company is also proud that it has the youngest fleet in the industry.

Additionally, all of FMT's vessels comply with equipment requirements such as navigation lights, radar systems, rate of turn indicators, depth finders, and electronic positioning systems. The boats are also equipped with firefighting equipment and life-saving gear. All vessels are constructed in accordance with US Coast Guard standards and are inspected annually.

The company is also prepared for the new subchapter M rules, which imposes additional inspection requirements on barges. Not only does the company have the newest fleet in the industry, but through its relationship with FMT Shipyard & Repair, LLC, it is assured that there will always be sufficient repair slots so that it will continue to have the fittest fleet afloat.
