FMT Emergency Response

Hurricane Response

Through hurricanes along the gulf coast, we havecontinued our operations safely with no incidents or casualtiesdue to these issues of nature.  Our office opperations have never ceased during any storm and we have made sure that our customers priority cargoes were delivered as quickly as possible once it became safe to transit.  After each storm, FMT vessels have worked closely with governmental agencies to help re-open the waterways as quickly as possible for all vessel traffic.  During these recovery times, many of our competitors were busy salvaging their own equipment that had been washed ashore, or waiting on us to clear the waterway.

Attached is a letter (pdf) from SeaRiver Maritime commending the organization for its preparation and response to Hurricane Ike which “involved lending horsepower to industry to relieve points of congestion necessary to re-open inland tributaries and ensure safe passage. These efforts exemplify a very high level of professionalism, commitment and readiness displayed by the most seasoned marine organizations- all carried out with little public recognition or understanding.”

Emergency Response Awards

On August 22nd through the 24th , 2007, The Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association (GICA) held its annual meeting in New Orleans, LA.

At this meeting, the United States Coast Guard recognized the efforts of two Florida Marine Employees; Capt. The merits award was presented to the Captains for their outstanding contributions in assisting to mitigate the impact of a major oil spill that arose from a containment failure at the CITGO Lake Charles, Louisiana Refinery in June of 2006.

The mission of the Gulf Intracoastal Canal Association is to ensure the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is maintained, operated and improved to provide the safest, most efficient, economical and environmentally-sound water transportation route in our nation, serving petrochemical facilities, refineries, farms, mines, ports, commercial fisheries, recreation and more.

FMT works closely with GICA, which provides important information daily to the Inland Marine Industry with regards to inland waterway hazards and events and FMT was a proud sponsor of the convention events held in New Orleans.
